A brief history of Malaysia
Proof of human habitation in Malaysia dates back 40,000 years when traders from India and China arrived in the 1st century AD, establishing ports and coastal towns later on. The region has been conquered by the Portuguese and Dutch, eventually becoming a Federation on August 31st, 1963, under British administration.
Construction of Genting Highlands resort began in 1965, with the first hotel opening in 1971. The resort has undergone continuous expansion since then.
Malaysia is located near the equator in Asia, with two separate regions on both sides of the South China Sea. The land mass is 329,847 km2 (127,355 sq mi), and it shares borders with Thailand in West Malaysia and Indonesia and Brunei in East Malaysia. The country is linked to Singapore by a bridge and a narrow causeway, and it also has maritime boundaries with the Philippines and Vietnam.
Malaysia has 118 airports, including one in the federal capital of Kuala Lumpur, with Malaysia Airlines as the official airline and two other commercial carriers.
Given its equatorial location with highlands and seashores, Malaysia offers a variety of climates, ranging from tropical rain forests to monsoon flooded mangroves and the mountain paradise of Genting Highlands.
